LANGUAGE LEARNING & TEACHING RESEARCH GROUP LLTRG

The Language Learning and Teaching Research Group (LLTRG) focuses on research in the area of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). A main question in SLA research is “How do students learn a second language in addition to their mother tongue?” The term “second language (L2)” here covers any language learned after the first language (i.e., second, third, fourth, etc.) and in varied language learning contexts, such as learning from a teacher in a classroom, acquiring the target language in their countries of origin or learning at home through varied means of the media.

The question “How do students learn a second language in addition to the mother tongue?” can be addressed from various perspectives, which is why SLA is interdisciplinary in nature. The Language Learning and Teaching Research Group at Prince Sultan University aims to investigate how second language is learned through linking theory to application. It is the belief of this group that SLA theoretical models/ frameworks cannot be separated from the reality of learning second languages, whether at classrooms or more “natural” learning contexts. Hence, the group will be approaching the SLA significant question equipped with the diverse expertise of her members in applied linguistics as well as second language teaching.

The Language Learning and Teaching Research Group is fully aware of the importance of collaboration to achieve its goals. Hence, the Group will collaborate with other SLA researchers, research groups and research centers nationally and internationally. The Group also aims to form strong linkages with the society in terms of L2 instructors and institutions. The Group’s activities, such as talks, training and consultations, will mainly serve the needs of the L2 learning community in Saudi Arabia.

Vision

The Language Learning and Teaching Research Group (LLTRG) aims to become a leading research group in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East.

Mission

The Language Learning and Teaching Research Group focuses on second language acquisition (SLA) research. The Group is committed to quality research output in highly ranked publication venues and the creation of strong links between research and the community it should serve. The Group conducts research, holds research-related activities, offers training to interested budding researchers and provides research-based consultations to language learning institutions.
