POLICY STATEMENT

This policy outlines the procedures for designing and approving the Prince Sultan University (PSU) Academic Calendar to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality in academic program delivery.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

The Academic Calendar plays a crucial role in facilitating student academic success by providing clear timelines for instruction, registration, and assessment activities. This policy aims to uphold standards aligned with the Academic Calendar of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and promote a conducive learning environment.

SCOPE AND PURPOSE

This policy is applicable to all members of the University community and serves to guide the development and approval of the PSU Academic Calendar.

PRINCIPLES OF THE POLICY

  1. Preparation and Approval: The Academic Calendar is prepared by the Deanship of Admissions and Registration and approved by the University Council.
  2. Consistency with National Calendar: Alignment with the Academic Calendar of Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  3. Semester Structure: Fall and Spring semesters consist of 15 weeks; Summer semester consists of 7.5 weeks with doubled class duration.
  4. Course Adjustment Periods: Add/drop periods are defined for each semester without affecting permanent records.
  5. Course Withdrawal Periods: Withdrawal with grade “W” is permitted within defined timelines.
  6. Calendar Events: The calendar includes early registration and COOP commencement dates.

DEFINITIONS

  1. Academic Year: Two regular semesters and a summer semester, if any.
  2. Academic Semester: A period of no less than 15 weeks excluding registration and exam periods.
  3. Summer Semester: A period not exceeding 8 weeks with doubled contact hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

The Deanship of Admissions and Registration is responsible for drafting the Academic Calendar in collaboration with relevant stakeholders and ensuring alignment with national standards and institutional regulations.

PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING POLICY VIOLATION

Violations of this policy are addressed through established university procedures.
