Quality education has become a matter of major importance for universities throughout the world. Prince Sultan University (PSU) shares this view and commitment to provide the highest quality standards of education in Saudi Arabia. Through the years, the university has sustained its efforts in providing adequate educational programs to students since its establishment in 1998. On its seventh year, the institution takes a major leap in reorganizing its internal systems and processes to ensure that quality education becomes a prime directive.
Committed in instituting major changes for an effective and efficient management of the institution, the Office of the University Rector created the Office of the Academic Assessment and Planning Center (AAPC) in September 2005. Its main task is to guarantee that the quality of educational programs and administrative processes including its support infrastructure, meets the highest standard. To attain this, the Office of the AAPC undertake a continuous quality assurance processes that incorporate planning and review cycle in all areas related to academic and administrative functions by developing and applying standards and procedures for periodic quality evaluation to ensure that the standards of performance are achieved in support of the institutional mission.
The administration of quality assurance processes in PSU focuses on the eleven (11) accreditation standards and criteria set by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA). Along with this, the center assumes major role in conducting the internal review process and prepares the institution for accreditation on both institutional and program level from the NCAAA.
In Academic Year 2015-2016, there's a major organizational re-structuring at PSU and AAPC's function was divided into four centers such as Evaluation and Academic Accreditation Center (EAAC), Quality Assurance Center (QAC), Strategic Planning and Development Center (SPDC) and Center for Statistics and Information (CSI). The EAAC directly reports to the Rector while the other centers directly reporting to the Vice Rector for Quality Assurance and Development. However, starting Academic Year 2016-2017, these centers are reporting directly to the Dean of the Deanship of Quality Assurance and Development. The division was decided to make each center focus with their specific functions and to serve better the university.
EAAC supports the mission of PSU by identifying areas of strengths as well as areas for continuous improvement in short, medium and long term by undertaking periodic self-evaluation of the core and supporting activities at PSU such as learning and teaching, quality assurance, research, community engagement, Learning resources and other Institutional support services.
The center initiates internal reviews and supports PSU's strategic directives and plans based on best practices, performance standards and benchmarks set by the Education Evaluation Commission – Higher Education Sector (EEC-HES) formerly known as the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA) and other international professional bodies such as ABET, AACSB, and NAAB.
