Department of Interior Design Engineering
As a participant in the academic mission of the Prince Sultan University -the Department of Interior Design Engineering is committed to producing a distinctive class of high- quality young professionals in the various fields of design work. The Department is committed to fostering intellectual excellence, emphasizing knowledge that is relevant to design (hand-drafting skills and technological computer CAD skills in designing). These young women graduates possess a sound academic background in the fundamental and necessary skills of interior design and thus are fully equipped to deal with the challenges of design projects in the real world and the jobs that await them in commercial, hospitality and residential design firms.
The Interior Design Engineering program was developed taking into account the needs of the local community and the increasing demands of professional and university-educated interior designers. In addition, the content and structure of well-known and accredited programs at prominent universities are taken into consideration along with the recommendations of leading international bodies. This enables program graduates to obtain the necessary professional skills that embark on successful industrial careers and/or pursue higher education in Interior Design.

The mission of Interior Design program at PSU aspires to offer a high quality learning platform where modern design technology is integrated with evidence-based research and environmental awareness. Our program strives to prepare graduates who are culturally competent, ethical professionals that creatively contribute to the local and international development of society. The program strives to integrate modern design technology, with emphasis on scientific research, the effect of design on human behavior and environmental awareness. we are aspiring to be part of the national transformation program to fulfill Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. With the rapidly changing design principles and practices in the 21 st century, the interior design program at PSU is determined to become continuously updated on new topics within the design body of knowledge including the integration of technology, the application of evidence-based design and environmental awareness values. From the first year, our students learn and illustrate the value of research as a problem-solving skill to support the design development of their projects. In design courses, students are engaged in lectures, design studio activities, and field trips that stimulate their learning process. As part of our students’ assessment, it is a priority to invite professional practitioners and other faculty members to provide students with professional critique on their projects. Students graduate after a seven-month professional design field training inside and outside the city of Riyadh. With the support of faculty, graduates are prepared with adequate skills to qualify them for a promising professional career in Saudi Arabia and internationally. 75% of our graduates are employed within six months of their graduations.
On behalf of the Interior Design Engineering Department faculty, staff and students, and myself, we welcome any further information needed regarding our program.
