On November 3rd, 2024, Prince Sultan University hosted the third installment of the BELab Seminar Series, titled "Adaptive Design Strategies: Enhancing Sustainability and User Experience in Architecture and Interiors." The seminar, which took place from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, was organized by Dr. Nadia Arafah and featured an insightful presentation by Mr. Rami Moussa, a seasoned design and technical director with over 20 years of experience in architecture, landscape, and urban design.
Mr. Moussa, who holds a master's degree in architectural engineering from Heriot-Watt University, shared his extensive expertise on adaptive design. During his presentation, he explored how adaptive design strategies in both architectural exteriors and interiors can create more sustainable, efficient, and user-centered spaces. His groundbreaking dissertation on adaptive building envelopes earned him the Student Merit Prize at Heriot-Watt University, and he is also a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and a leading professional with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The presentation delved into the practical and theoretical foundations of adaptive design, emphasizing how buildings and spaces can dynamically respond to changing conditions. Mr. Moussa discussed the role of intelligent building systems, flexible interiors, and smart materials in improving occupant comfort and operational efficiency. He also highlighted the impact of AI-powered spaces on the future of architecture and interiors.
For students and professionals alike, the seminar provided invaluable insights into the latest trends and technologies shaping the future of design. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of how adaptive design can enhance both the sustainability and user experience of built environments, preparing them for future careers in architecture and interior design.
