Introduction

Desiring from the College of Law at Prince Sultan University, and with the direct support of the Rector, the college announces, in cooperation with the American Bar Association (ABA), that it provides a distinguished training and qualification program entitled: (Lawyering Practical Skills Program) offered by a distinguished group of American lawyers with highly professional qualification - Some distinguished law firms in America on 20/1/2020 and continue for a period of four weeks, as attending these programs enhances the student's opportunity to obtain outstanding professional qualification and building the skills of a student and Prince Sultan University student, and enables him to see the latest successful experiences in skills Legal.

Legal Writing in English Week 1

This in an intensive one-week course to help prepare students for internship and practice opportunities in legal settings where the English language is used to draft legal documents and communicate to colleagues, clients, adverse parties, administrative tribunals, courts, and the public. The course will be especially valuable for students who expect to work in settings that involve international law, international transactions, and international dispute resolution. The course will cover best practices in the customs, styles, structure, and protocols of legal writing in English. Students will focus on learning and applying the basic rules of legal drafting, using appropriate language, and organizing and presenting the contents of legal documents. The course will be organized around a series of sequenced, interrelated units that are divided into:

  • presentation and discussion about basic rules
  • active and interactive exercises that give students an opportunity to apply basic rules related to drafting documents, analyzing and framing legal positions, and presenting legal analysis and conclusions in written and oral argument

Special emphasis will be placed on writing intra-office legal memoranda of the type that might be expected in an international law office setting.

Oral Advocacy Week 2

This one-week training will focus on the skills of oral advocacy, as practiced in the courtroom through trials or arguments on motions. The students will “learn by doing,” through the practice of various oral advocacy skills utilizing simulated legal problems. At the end of this highly interactive training, the participants will know how to analyze a case and develop a legal theory, understand how to be an effective questioner of witnesses, and be able to make an oral argument at either the trial or appellate level. Lectures will be utilized, but limited, as the focus will be on giving the participants the opportunity to perform the oral advocacy skills, and receive constructive feedback.

Accounting for Lawyers Week 3

This one-week course will introduce concepts of financial reporting, including underlying principles of financial accounting, the elements of financial statements, notes to financial statements, and key accounting standards. The course will help students provide effective advice to clients by gaining an understanding of the financial information that informs management decision-making and is used by external parties, such as investors, lenders and regulators, to assess the economic condition of an enterprise. The instruction will include workshops to provide hands-on learning about how to read and interpret financial statements, as well as exercises designed to illustrate the use of accounting concepts in contractual negotiations or litigation. The course will also include segments on oversight of an enterprise’s financial reporting by the board of directors (typically through the audit committee), the purpose and function of the independent audit of financial statements, and the regulation of auditing. The course will be based principally on US generally accepted accounting standards and regulations, but will also discuss international standards in these areas.

Law Practice Management for the New Lawyer Week 4

This one-week intensive course will identify and strengthen critical skills needed to transition from the role of law student to legal professional. The course recognizes that the successful practice of law, in any setting, requires more than just an understanding of the substantive law. Fundamentals of time and office management, team work, communication theory, leadership development, networking, and client services will be discussed.

And presented at the College of Law, this section transmits some of the trainer's impressions: Dawn Schock – Lawyer about the soft skills of being a lawyer covered this week, and about the interaction of female trainees.

Particular emphasis will be placed on creating a supportive and collaborative environment in which new skills may be acquired and honed through interactive exercises. The course will particularly help the beginning lawyer develop personal strategies for succeeding in a law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department.

At the end of the fourth week of the lawyering practical skills program presented at Clyde & Co law firm .Mr. Abdulaziz Al-Busaili, the Saudi partner shared his knowledge and experience with our participants about law practice management for the new lawyer as the last skill in the intensive program.
