We are excited to announce an interesting opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative team at the Smart Systems Engineering Lab at PSU. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our funded project specializing in federated learning. The successful candidate will work on cutting-edge research in federated learning, contributing to the development and implementation of novel algorithms and methodologies. The research aims to advance the state-of-the-art in privacy-preserving machine learning and distributed systems, with applications across various domains, including IoT and smart cities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct original research in federated learning, focusing on algorithm development, optimization, and implementation.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and stakeholders to integrate federated learning techniques into real-world applications.
- Develop and maintain federated learning frameworks and toolkits.
- Design and evaluate novel techniques for model aggregation, data heterogeneity handling, and communication efficiency in federated learning systems.
- Integrate federated learning techniques with other AI methodologies, such as reinforcement learning and self-supervised learning
- Collaborate with a team of multidisciplinary researchers.
- Publish research findings in reputable journals and conferences.
- Mentor and supervise junior researchers and graduate students.
- Contribute to grant proposal writing and project management.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on machine learning, federated learning, or distributed systems.
- Strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals.
- Proficiency in programming tools such as Python, ROS, and MATLAB.
- Experience with ML/DL frameworks and optimization techniques for large-scale models.
- Prior experience with real-world applications of federated learning in smart cities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Prior experience with grant writing, project execution and management.
