Honoring the Winner of the First Grant of Prince Sultan University Strategic Philanthropic Work Program

Honoring the Winner of the First Grant of Prince Sultan University Strategic Philanthropic Work Program The Strategic Philanthropic Work Program at Prince Sultan University held on Monday, Ramadan, 17th 1438 corresponding to June, 12th 2017, a ceremony at the university to honor the winner of the first grant offered by the Program. The winner was the Saudi Charitable Association of Diabetes. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed bin Saleh Al Yamani, the University Rector, and the partners of the Program, HRH Princess Albandari bint Abdulrahman al-Faisal, Director General of the King Khalid Foundation, Mr. Khaled Juffali and his wife Mrs. Olfat Mutlaq Al-Mutlaq, and Mr. Abdulaziz bin Saad Al Hamidi, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Charitable Association of Diabetes as a representative of the Association. The ceremony included an introductory film about the Program and about the University’s experience in inserting this Program, considered the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the region, as one of its academic programs, and an overview of the project that won the first grant offered by the Program. The ceremony was concluded with the signing of the agreement of the grant. It is worth mentioning that the Strategic Philanthropic Work Program, considered the first applied academic program of its kind in the Kingdom and the region, aims to develop the students’ concepts of charity and social work , and promote their awareness of its importance and its role in the development of the community. The Program also intends to develop the students’ social awareness , get them used to taking the lead in charitable work and decision-making ,and effectively contribute to the development and progress of the community. The winner of the first grant of the program was selected by the students of the course through following a specific mechanism. This mechanism depends on clear standards developed by the students under the supervision of their professor, Dr. Yazeed bin Mohamed Alfakhri, in cooperation with the strategic partner of the Program, King Khalid Foundation. The mechanism involved conducting a field study for the philanthropic societies working in Riyadh, classifying them, and studying the developmental return of their charitable work on the community. Consequently, the project of “protecting the patients of diabetes and the community from the disease” for the Saudi Charitable Association of Diabetes was selected. The aim of the project is to reduce the growing number of diabetes patients and spread awareness of the disease and its complications. The program is conducted by specialists. It aims at raising awareness about diabetes and training the patients and healthy people on how to protect themselves from diabetes and its complications, in addition to providing free diabetes measurement devices for free for the patients and training them on using them. The value of a grant is (20.000) dollars. Ten thousand Riyals were presented by Mr. Khaled Juffali and Mrs Olfat Mutlaq Al-Mutlaq, and Ten thousand Riyals were presented by King Khalid Foundatio.
