A field trip to LEAP 2022 for students of electrical engineering, communications, and networks engineering

LEAP is the global platform and unique event for future technologies and the most disruptive technology professionals from around the world. It is where progress is accelerating most, and cutting-edge technologies are getting adopted first.

The Electrical and Communications and Networks Engineering students visited a field trip to LEAP, an international level technical exhibition held in Riyadh on 1st Feb 2022 organized by their course teacher Dr. Umashankar Subramaniam. They benefited a lot from the exhibition, especially in Huawei corner and Ericsson stall was remote and condition monitoring of power lines and towers in remote locations. They also benefited from how 5G and high-speed communication and networking are important for smart cities to prioritize monitoring and managing the different locations. They also witnessed drones in STC corner which is primarily used for diagnostics and surveillance. The students also drove the electric car virtually to test the different scenarios like acceleration and braking. They learned how the high-speed GHz mm waves used in point-to-point communication with a distance of about 1.5km in a Nokia stall. They also benefited from Mobily, Schneider Electric, and Cisco stalls with the application of Communication and Networking. In the end, students thanked Prof. Umashankar and the Department for arranging this most valuable field trip to the LEAP exhibition for their knowledge and observation of how communication technologies are applied in real-time applications, and how it helps them to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-time applications in the senior design projects.
