POLICY STATEMENT

This policy presents and explains the procedures and regulations followed in providing the central library with Arabic information sources to serve the university's objectives in the academic courses and current/future research process of the faculty members, students, and researchers.

BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION

Collection management at PSU Central Library is viewed as a user service function, and is a joint effort of the Library and teaching faculty with the Central Library managing the process. Arabic Information Resources Management Librarian collaborates with faculty and staff regarding the selection and development of information resources aligned with areas of teaching, learning, and research related with to curricular foci and university fields of concerns.

The said policy will provide guide lines for systematic and sustainable development of PSU's Arabic collection, ensuring that it remains relevant to the evolving needs of the PSU community.

SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The main purpose of this policy is to define and present the policy of acquisitions procedures for Arabic information resources in the Central Library of Prince Sultan University.

PRINCIPLES OF THE POLICY

  • This policy shall ensure that the collection of the central library remains supportive of PSU’s mission.
  • This shall confirm that collections at the central library are relevant to the academic programs and research objectives of Prince Sultan University.

DEFINITIONS

Collection Development: the process of systematically building library collections to meet study, teaching, research, accreditation, and information needs of users.

Acquisition:: the process of continually acquiring information sources of all kinds (books, periodicals, audio-visual materials...) according to specific basis of selection to fulfil the desires and satisfaction of the central library beneficiaries from faculty members and students according to their specialization and research segments; which supports all colleges and departments on a continuous and balanced basis.

Information resources: Print information resources in the library that provide information to library users.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

Faculty members and librarians under the supervision of library directors on both campuses are responsible for ensuring compliance with this policy.

To ensure that the concerned library staff and faculty members are well aware of this policy, this policy will be published on the library's website and in the library's handbook.

PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING POLICY VIOLATION

Violating the Collection Development and Acquisition Policy (Arabic Language) shall be referred to the Central Library management to take the necessary action.
