The Applied Linguistics Research Lab Holds a Seminar in Collaboration with the Regional English Language Office at the US Embassy
The Applied Linguistics Research Lab (ALLAB) at the College of Humanities held a seminar entitled “The Life of a Teacher Trainer” on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in collaboration with the Regional English Language Office (RELO) at the US Embassy. The seminar was attended by Dr. Heba Khoshaim, the Acting Dean of the College of Humanities, Dr. Alia Mitchell, Vice-Dean of the College of Humanities, and Dr. Dina El-Dakhs, the College Research Director in addition to a number of PSU faculty members and guests from the public. The seminar was initiated with a welcoming talk by Dr. Mitchell on behalf of the College of Humanities. This was followed by a brief introduction to ALLAB by Dr. Dina El-Dakhs as the lab leader. Then, Ms. Naima AlHadidi, the RELO representative delivered a brief talk about the office. After these introductory statements, the technical program of the seminar started. The first part was delivered by Mr. Thomas W. Santos, the RELO Officer for the Gulf Region. His talk focused on key questions about the life of the teacher trainer, including who qualifies to be a teacher trainer, when a teacher could consider switching career to a teacher trainer, what privileges teacher trainers enjoy, etc. The audience highly interacted with the talk and made important contributions with their comments and questions. The second part of the technical program featured a panel discussion including a number of teacher trainers in the field of English language teaching. The panelists were Dr. Orchida Fayez, the Director of the University Level English courses, Dr. Hala Ismail, the Chair of the Linguistics Department, Dr. Safaa Eissa, the Director of the Advising Center at the Women’s Campus, and Dr. Hala Dalbani, Program Coordinator of the English for Professionals Track at the Linguistics Department. The panel was a great success since the panelists shared their authentic experiences as teacher trainers with the audience.
