Understanding Sustainable Development Goals: ACT NOW!

The Center for Sustainability and Climate (CSC) hosted a workshop along with their strategic partner United Nation Global Compact (UNGC) Saudi Network titled by “Understanding Sustainable Development Goals and its Relation to Saudi Vision 2030” for the PSU students on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.

The purpose of this session is to explore the understanding of all 17 SDGs and how students can be engaged with the initiatives of SDGs to contribute to Saudi vision 2030.

Students from different departments as well as the director, associate director, sustainability faculty ambassador, and SDG club members were actively present at this event.

The event has been started with the welcoming and opening address by Dr. Heba Khoshaim, the vice president of woman campus, followed by the panel session. Speakers from different renowned organizations and sustainability community such as Ms. Nouf Alsughaiyer, Corporate Citizenship Lead-KSA, Accenture Middle East, Mr. Muhammed Tariq, Chief Sustainability Officer Tanmiah Food Company, Mr. Ahmed Aljohani, Sustainability Planning Specialist, Strategy Unit, STC and Dr. Hasan Raboui, Climate Change and Renewable Energy Specialist, Sabic has attended and brightened the panel session. The session has been moderated by Ms. Maryam Telmesani, Chairwoman of the UNGC Saudi network, CSO of MBL, sustainability consultant for MoC.

The United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member states in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – developed and developing – in a global partnership.

The event ended with a frequent Q&A session in which students raised a variety of concerns and questions about the SDGs.
