President's Digital Learning Excellence Awards for Faculty

Objective:

  • To recognize and celebrate faculty members who demonstrate exceptional innovation and effectiveness in the use of digital technologies to enhance student learning, knowledge dissemination, and skill development at Prince Sultan University.
  • To encourage the adoption of best practices in digital learning and promote a culture of continuous improvement in teaching and learning through technology.
  • To foster a positive and engaging learning experience for students through the strategic and impactful integration of diverse digital tools.
  • To ensure accessibility and inclusivity in digital learning initiatives, catering to the diverse needs of the student population, including support for PSU's Boed Remote Initiative.
  • To establish clear and effective methods for assessing the impact of digital learning on student outcomes and user experience.

Award Categories:

  • The Award for the Innovative Use of Educational Technology (EdTech).
  • The Award for the Design of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).
  • The Award for Digital Innovation in Laboratory Instruction.

Criteria:

General Criteria (Applicable to All Categories):

  • Impact on Learning/Knowledge Dissemination: Evidence of a positive impact on student learning, knowledge dissemination, or skill development, demonstrated through metrics like student performance, engagement data, feedback surveys, or reach.
  • Innovation and Effective Implementation: Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the selection and application of digital technologies, with evidence of effective implementation and integration, including support for remote learning within the Boed Remote Initiative framework.
  • Learner/User Engagement: Evidence of fostering a positive and engaging learning or user experience through digital tools, including proper feedback mechanisms.
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity: Consideration of accessibility and inclusivity in the design and implementation of digital learning initiatives.
  • Assessment of Learning/Impact: Clear and effective methods of assessing learning, impact, or user experience.
  • Peer E-Learning Support: Sharing expertise with faculty members at Prince Sultan University through the delivery of webinars, workshops, or training sessions on digital learning and educational technologies.

Category-Specific Considerations:

The Award for the Innovative Use of Educational Technology (EdTech):

Focus: Strategic and impactful integration of diverse EdTech tools (including PSU platforms like Moodle and Examsoft/Examplify) within standard or blended courses to enhance student learning outcomes.

Specific Considerations:

  • Alignment of EdTech tool selection and integration with specific learning objectives and pedagogical strategies.
  • Effective utilization of learning analytics (e.g., from Moodle and Examsoft/Examplify) to track student progress, identify learning gaps, and refine instructional approaches.

The Award for the Design of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC):

Focus: Design and delivery of MOOCs that reach a global audience and effectively disseminate knowledge.

Specific Considerations:

  • Reach and impact of the MOOC (e.g., number of participants, completion rates, learner feedback).
  • Quality of the MOOC content and design.
  • Effectiveness of community building and learner engagement.
  • Effectiveness of global reach and effective learning.

The Award for Digital Innovation in Laboratory Instruction:

Focus: Innovative use of digital technologies to enhance laboratory or studio-based learning experiences.

Specific Considerations:

  • Impact of digital technologies on practical skill development and scientific inquiry.
  • Use of virtual or remote labs to enhance accessibility and flexibility.
  • Effectiveness of digital tools for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization.

Eligibility:

  • Faculty Status: Full-time or part-time faculty members at Prince Sultan University.
  • Demonstrated Digital Engagement: Faculty members who have actively utilized digital technologies in teaching, learning, or research, and who can show measurable learning impact.
  • Duration of Implementation: Faculty members who have implemented their digital learning approach for a sufficient period to demonstrate its effectiveness (e.g., at least two semesters/trimesters or equivalent for ongoing projects).

Prize:

SAR 10,000 for each award category.
